I have gotten this question quite a bit and when I start explaining our circumstances and the reason my husband and I ultimately made this decision I've been able to bring people on board with our choice.
MORE FAMILY TIME
When you have two kids, and your husband works 12 hour shifts you are responsible for making sure everything is taken care of. In the summer it's not so bad but when school goes back and you are also a teacher life gets tougher, especially when extracurriculars begin. Coming home to an 1800 sq. ft. house or spending the whole weekend cleaning it can be rough. For me I needed things on my timetable and downsizing allowed me the space to reorganize my wife. We have game nights and waterpark days. We cook for the week on Sundays to further simplify our lives. We do homework. We watch movies, and we take family walks with the dogs. We've gone bowling more (something both my husband and I enjoy and love sharing with the kids)
NEW FRIENDS
We've made new friends and been able to accept a new furry friend into our home for Duchess. Sugar Ray is an 8-year-old male Boxer Terrier mix just like our girl Duchess. who is now three. Throughout the summer though we saw many families come and go and we got share experiences with them and that allowed us to expose the kids to new people. The smaller lifestyle has also allowed us to compact what was important to us and allowed us to take care of ourselves more. We are drinking more water and we are being more active. LIFE IS GOOD!
